How to Set Up Facebook Pixel & Event Tracking in LeadCapture.io

This guide walks you through how to set up Meta (Facebook) Pixel and Event Tracking inside LeadCapture.io. With this setup, you can send form interaction data, such as submissions, button clicks, or verified leads, back into Facebook to optimize your ad performance and tracking.

This feature supports both standard events and custom events for advanced tracking flexibility.

Overview: What Can You Track?

With Facebook Event Tracking enabled, you can:

  • Track form submissions, OTP verifications, and specific button clicks
  • Send event data back into Meta (Facebook) for accurate ad tracking
  • Use both standard and custom events for flexibility in campaign targeting and optimization

Step 1: Locate and Add Your Facebook Pixel ID

To begin tracking, you must first connect your Facebook Pixel.

Where to find your Pixel ID:

  1. Go to your Facebook Events Manager.

  2. Select your Pixel and look for the Data Set ID.

  3. Copy the numeric Pixel ID.

How to add it in LeadCapture.io:

  1. Open your Lead Form in the LeadCapture.io Builder.

  2. Navigate to Settings > Facebook Pixel ID.

  3. Paste your Pixel ID into the input field.

  4. Click Save.

Your form is now connected to Meta/Facebook and ready for event tracking.

Step 2: Add Event Triggers to Your Form

Events are data signals that are sent to Facebook when a user takes a specific action in your form. These events help train the Meta algorithm to better target your ideal audience.

Types of events you can add:

Standard Events (recommended for beginners):

These are predefined by Facebook. Examples include:

  • Lead – A user submitted your lead form
  • CompleteRegistration – A user signed up or completed an opt-in
  • Contact – A user requested to be contacted

Custom Events:

These are user-defined and allow you to track more specific actions, such as:

  • Verifiedlead – When a user completes OTP verification
  • Webinarsignup – When someone registers for a webinar
  • Qualifiedllead – When a user selects a high-value response

Where to Add Events in the Form

Form submission (Contact Step):

  • Go to the Contact Step in your form.
  • Scroll to the bottom and expand the Facebook Event Tracking section.
  • Enter your event name (e.g., Lead).

  • Click Save.

OTP Verification (Double Opt-In):

  • Go to the OTP Step in your form.
  • Expand the Facebook Event Tracking section.
  • Enter a custom event name (e.g., Verifiedlead).

  • Click Save.

Button Clicks (Multiple Choice or Quiz Responses):

  • Go to the step that contains the buttons.
  • Click the pencil icon on a button.
  • Scroll to the Facebook Event Tracking section.
  • Enter a standard or custom event (e.g., Qualifiedlead).

  • Click Save.
  • Repeat for other buttons as needed.

You can layer multiple event types throughout your form depending on your tracking goals.

Optional: Add Multiple Events in a Single Form

You can track multiple user actions with separate events in one form. For example:

  • Track Lead when the form is submitted.
  • Track Verifiedlead when OTP verification is completed.
  • Track Qualifiedlead when the user selects a high-value response.

This gives Facebook more granular insights into lead quality and engagement.

How to Test If Your Events Are Working

  1. Install the Meta Pixel Helper Chrome extension.
  2. Open your live form and start interacting with it.
  3. Watch the extension to see if the expected events are firing in real-time when you click buttons or submit forms.

How to View Events Inside Facebook

  1. Go to Facebook Events Manager.
  2. Select your Pixel.
  3. Scroll down to the Event Activity section.
  4. Wait 30 to 45 minutes for events to appear.
  5. For custom events, Facebook may prompt you to verify the event manually through a “Verify Event” link.

Best Practices

  • Use the standard Lead event as your baseline tracking.
  • Event names are case-sensitive (e.g., Lead is not the same as lead).
  • Allow time for events to appear inside Events Manager, it can take up to an hour.
  • Use meaningful event names that clearly reflect user actions.
  • Start simple with one or two key events, then expand tracking as needed.

Common Use Cases

  • To track form submissions, use the standard event Lead and apply it to the final contact step of your form.
  • To track verified leads only, use a custom event like Verifiedlead and apply it to the OTP step.
  • To track qualified responses, use a custom event like Qualifiedlead on multiple-choice responses or quiz answers.
  • To track webinar registrations, use a custom event like Webinarsignup on a step or button tied to that action.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If events aren’t showing up, confirm the Pixel ID is correct and saved in form settings.
  • Use the Meta Pixel Helper to confirm that events are firing during form interaction.
  • Custom events may need to be manually verified inside Events Manager.
  • Events might take 30 to 60 minutes to display in your Facebook dashboard.
