Allow Unverified Leads: How to Capture Leads That Skip OTP Verification
The Allow Unverified Leads feature gives you more flexibility in capturing lead data even if a user does not complete phone verification.
If someone reaches the contact step of your form and enters their phone number, but fails to complete the OTP process, this feature allows the lead to still be sent through to your CRM or lead distribution platform.
This is especially useful when:
- You are running high-volume lead campaigns and want to avoid losing partially verified users
- You want to analyze leads who are bailing during the phone verification process
- You want to A/B test the impact of verification on your conversion rate
How It Works
When Allow Unverified Leads is turned on and phone verification is enabled on your form, the system will monitor the user’s actions at the contact step.
Here's what happens:
- The user enters their phone number
- The system sends the OTP code
- The user does not complete the verification process (for example, they abandon the form before entering the code or fail the OTP attempt)
- After a short delay, LeadCapture.io pushes the lead as a partial submission
This means even without completing OTP verification, the captured contact details can still be routed into your Lead distribution tools.
What Gets Captured
When a lead is submitted through Allow Unverified Leads, the payload will include a marker that indicates the phone number was not verified.
This lets your CRM, lead delivery system, or Zapier integration distinguish between fully verified and unverified submissions. You can use this marker to segment, filter, or route unverified leads separately from verified ones.
Key Differences from Drop-Off Mode
While Drop-Off Mode also captures partial submissions, the trigger logic is different.
- Drop-Off Mode is based on general inactivity after email or phone is entered in any form field.
- Allow Unverified Leads is specifically tied to phone verification, and activates when the OTP process is started but not completed.
In short:
- Drop-Off Mode monitors inactivity
- Allow Unverified Leads monitors incomplete phone verification
If you're using phone verification in your LeadForm, you can enable both features for maximum flexibility.
How to Enable Allow Unverified Leads
To enable this feature:
- Go to your LeadForm in the builder
- Click on the Lead Delivery tab
- Under the Lead Verification section, toggle on Phone Verification (SMS)
- Once enabled, an additional setting called Allow Unverified Leads will appear
- Toggle Allow Unverified Leads on
- Save changes to your form
Once this is turned on, LeadCapture.io will begin monitoring for leads who start but do not complete OTP verification.
